Dementia Care

No care plan is one-size-fits-all. Our specialist dementia care is personal; we look at preferences and what matters most, keeping each person at the heart of everything we do.

Our Dementia Care

Supporting Identity and Dignity

Park View is a safe, secure, warm and friendly environment, with staff who are trained in specialist approaches to focus on what people can do and promote independence. Everybody’s different, so we focus on helping you get on with life and doing the things you love.

Special features for residents with dementia include alarm systems to alert staff, specialist lighting and way finding, sensory themed and reminiscence areas with a varied menu of food and drinks available at all times of day and night.

Our Memory Lane Community

Over 920,000 people in the UK live with dementia, and many need the right environment to live well. At Park View, our Memory Lane Community has been thoughtfully designed following University of Stirling’s dementia care guidance, creating a safe, engaging, and comfortable space. Bright hallways, homely lounges, kitchenettes, and outdoor areas encourage independence and connection while supporting daily wellbeing.

Led by Registered Home Manager Charlotte Potter, who specialises in dementia care, our team provides person-centred support that blends care, activity, and companionship. This inclusive approach helps residents maintain independence, dignity, and a strong sense of belonging.

How Dementia can affect us

Dementia is a term used to describe a range of brain disorders that affect memory, thinking, behaviour, and daily life.

While it mainly impacts older people, it is not a normal part of ageing. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause, and though dementia is progressive and terminal, treatments can help slow its progression. Symptoms vary but often include memory loss, confusion, difficulty with speech, and changes in mood or motivation with each person’s journey being unique.

At Park View, we understand that dementia can affect how people see, hear, and interpret the world around them. Our Memory Lane Community has been designed with this in mind, creating calm, well-lit, and engaging spaces that promote comfort and independence. We believe that all behaviour is a form of communication, and by understanding each individual’s needs, our team provides compassionate, person-centred support to help manage difficult moments and enhance wellbeing.

A Sense of Community and Purpose

Dementia refers to a group of brain disorders that affect memory, thinking, behaviour, and daily life.

While it mostly impacts older adults, it isn’t a normal part of ageing. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause, and though dementia is progressive, the right care can help slow its effects and improve quality of life.

At Park View, our Memory Lane Community is designed to support people living with dementia through calm, engaging, and familiar surroundings. We take a person-centred approach understanding that every behaviour communicates a need and provide compassionate care that promotes comfort, dignity, and wellbeing.

Keeping Busy

Each person living with dementia is unique, with their own history, routines, and interests. At Park View, we believe that care should focus on the individual not the illness.

Our team in the Memory Lane Community builds care plans around each resident’s lifestyle, preferences, and life story to create a sense of purpose and belonging. By supporting familiar roles and daily routines, we help residents stay active, confident, and engaged in ways that feel meaningful to them.

Everyday activities such as cooking, gardening, or setting the table can bring comfort, pride, and joy, while organised tasks and creative expression restore a sense of order and self-worth. We also embrace reminiscence therapy, using personal memories to spark conversation, emotion, and connection. Through shared stories, sensory experiences, and walks in nearby Gloucester Park, we help residents maintain identity, wellbeing, and a sense of being truly part of the world around them.
